Separate total length from cut yield
If a chosen requirement is 440 ft and matching usable stock is 40 ft, the remaining gap is 400 ft. A declared 1200 ft roll covers that aggregate gap in one whole-roll purchase. Using a 330 ft lower-bound length for the indented product would require two rolls. These are quantity scenarios, not protection or exact-content guarantees.
A simple whole-roll example
The planner subtracts only the matching length entered by the user. Do not count flat-feed kraft remnants against an expanded GreenWrap requirement or pool different paper grades as interchangeable stock. If a remainder is unmeasured, leave its usable length unknown rather than estimating it from outside diameter or a basis-weight label.
Do not hide small remnants
Aggregate length is not the same as an uninterrupted-cut guarantee. A hypothetical 10 ft remainder split into two 5 ft pieces cannot supply a single 8 ft continuous wrap. Likewise, several small scraps may add to a useful total number without serving the required cut layout. This tool does not optimize cuts across individual remnants.
Plan continuity explicitly
Record continuous-cut requirements, separate usable remnants and any actual length tolerance in a production plan before relying on total footage. The calculator rounds a supported length gap to whole offer units; it does not guarantee a no-join layout or estimate roll yield from shape. Ask the supplier about exact-length commitments where a production requirement depends on them.
Continuous pieces need individual stock records
A single 8 ft cut cannot come from two separate 5 ft remnants without a join. Their 10 ft aggregate total is therefore not a guarantee for that requirement. Keep remnants individually where continuity matters. The roll planner subtracts a total matching length and explicitly does not solve the allocation of continuous cuts across separate pieces.
A cut-yield arithmetic example
A 1200 ft declared roll divided into hypothetical 3.5 ft pieces yields 342 whole pieces before any cutting allowance, using 1197 ft and leaving 3 ft. That example says nothing about a protective use for 3.5 ft. It illustrates why a fractional quotient should not be rounded up into a full additional continuous piece.
Do not count unknown stock as measured
If remaining length has not been measured, record it as unknown in the operational stock ledger. Enter zero in a scenario only if you intentionally choose to exclude that uncertain stock; do not describe the zero as a physical finding. The tool has no diameter-to-length or weight-to-length function to recover the missing field.
Keep grades and bases separate
A remainder of 30#flat-feed kraft is not automatically matching stock for a 40#requirement or an expanded honeycomb task. The arithmetic can only be meaningful after the user confirms a suitable material and measurement basis. The site does not approve substitutions or combine different leftover materials into one guaranteed equivalent roll.
Round the relevant selling unit
For plain and indented paper, the selected offer unit is one roll. For GreenWrap, it is the selected case presentation. The planner labels the result by that unit rather than calling every purchase a roll. Verify the actual selected contents and any minimum before placing the order; this worksheet does not submit it.
